I requested a Vine trial of Purina's Beneful, curious to know what Molly's reaction would be. It was high favorable as was the reaction of her older cousin, Boomer, a frequent guest. Then one of our sons came by with his dogs (a miniature Dachshund and a Shih Tzu) and took some of the kibble home with him for them to try. Our large family offers an excellent quasi focus group for product trials. Bottom line: We will continue with Beneful, based on a unanimous vote by all the canine members.
240278240278B001VJ0B0IA2X7NBUETXC19EJustin G.0041338249600Our dog's dinner of choiceWe've tried several different brands of dry dog food for our girl (a 50lb mutt, if that matters), but the one that stood out time after time is Purina's Beneful line. It has ingredients we can be comfortable with, and more importantly our dog loves it and is quick to finish the bowl. We've tried a few different kinds of Beneful just for variety, and she eagerly devours them all. I'm well aware that it's not going to have the same nutrition content as the pricier, all-natural/organic/etc. brands, but it's kept our dog healthy and her coat shiny for seven years now, so we're sticking with it.
240279240279B001VJ0B0IA1UWSU5ETQRQKXMr. Fred0051338163200Excellent "Step-Up" ProductOur dog is a large Great Dane and Sharpei breed, about 80 pounds or so. We usually feed him inexpensive generic dry dog food, and he does quite well with it, although he sometimes shows something akin to boredom if he thinks there might be something better available.

Purina Beneful represents a step up from his usual fare. We first tried giving him a handful of Beneful as a treat, which he eagerly consumed. After this pattern was established, we started mixing Beneful in with his regular dog food. We ended up with a half and half mix that he never disdains. We haven't tried feeding him a full diet of just Beneful, although we have given him a few meals of pure Beneful.

We can't yet speak to the long-term effects of Beneful on his nutrition, but we certainly don't foresee any problems. Beneful isn't really that much more expensive than his regular dog food, it seems to have a good nutrient mix, it has some moist pieces mixed in with the dry, and the dog loves it, probably because it contains beef. The package opens and reseals easily with a plastic slider.

This is obviously a good "step-up" product that comes at a reasonable price. You might want to give it a try; I don't hesitate to recommend it.
240280240280B001VJ0B0IA2L35P0VQE7LBNnowann0051338163200The Only Dry Food My Dog LikesI've tried a wide variety of dog food brands including some of the more pricier popular picks such as Nutro and Taste of the Wild as well as several of the Purina-made foods - Dog Chow, Chef Michael. All this to find what my picky pooch will eat. Beneful is the ONLY dry food he doesn't look like he's being tortured with by being made to eat it. Everything else I have to bribe him to take bites of with gravy poured on top or spike it with a piece of bacon, etc. He actually will eat the Beneful by itself without any coaxing.. and he knows the difference between Beneful and anything else. When I try to introduce "healthier/gourmet" food by mixing in other kibble, he takes a bite of the mix, spits it all back out on the floor so he can see the individual pieces, and picks out only the Beneful pieces to eat (leaving the rest for me to clean up later). I've noticed Beneful seems to be moister than other dry foods, so that may have something to do with why my dog likes it more. The kibble stays relatively moist, but it doesn't get moldy or anything in its bag before I use it. I guess I'm lucky my dog doesn't care for the more expensive stuff and only wants this which is a great price compared to all that's available. Oh, and there is a taste difference between the Healthy Weight variety of Beneful vs Original according to my dog as well. He prefers Original, but Healthy Weight will do if he's determined to lose a few pounds.

Rocky our 75lb black and tan coonhound, Buddy our 70lb blue heeler, Nellie our 50 lb treeing walker and Pooper our new mixed breed puppy they all loved this dog food.

I love the resealable bag, it keeps the dog food from drying out and going stale.

I'd highly recommend this dog food even for picky eaters.
240282240282B001VJ0B0IA336FE20YZZL3Agirlswithbooks "girlswithbooks"0051338076800My Dog's Favorite! We have two dogs in our home and they could not be more different. One is a pug, who is spoiled and bratty and picky. The other is a Giant Airedale who is pretty much happy with anything. She would eat cardboard if you gave it to her with a smile. So, I wasn't exactly worried about her opinion of the dog food, she'd eat anything. The Pug however, devours this food! He loved it! In fact, he would go stand by the bag at feeding time! Sometimes if we change their diet in the slightest way, even just changing the brand of food, both dogs have digestive issues for a day, but not with Beneful! Both dogs switched effortlessly! No gastro issues at all. Both seem satisfied and happy. I will definitley be buying Beneful in the future!

Plus, I found that I could use less of this (because it's better quality and more filling) than the food I had been using. Nothing to say bad about this product.

We finally agreed on Science Diet Senior and that has worked for almost a year. But when I saw this bag of Beneful listed on Vine, I couldn't turn it down. Luckily, Smiley really likes it. My only concerns are the extra additives, which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars.
240287240287B001VJ0B0IA3EE0H0NWQ9QVL"Rocky Raccoon" "Hey, Doc, It's Only ...0051337904000Tail Waggin' DifferenceJust watching the commercials, Purina's "Beneful" is my most coveted dog food. So when I saw it available from Amazon, I had to snatch it right up. To sell pet food, manufacturers must convince us that their product has A.) the best nutrition for pets, and has B.) the best taste for dogs and cats. "Beneful" easily looks like the most appealing choice for dog owners.

Enter my dog. He is not normal. He doesn't always eat right away. He'll save portions for later, and he often eats later in the day. The only consistent habit he has is that he'll eat right after vigorous exercise. Maybe I should have named him "Morris the Dog".

A comparison to his near generic bargain brand isn't necessarily convincing. Both claim to have complete nutrition, and the ingredients are often the same but listed in a different order, and the first ingredients listed are the top ingredients in proportion to the rest.

The real difference came in my dog's reaction. With Beneful he eats right away, completely, and he sniffs and licks the bowl about four times after eating. (Before Beneful he'd do this only sometimes and maybe once.) He gets the same recommended portions as before, and his eating habits were about the same with the leftover portions of his previous owners' food.

240288240288B001VJ0B0IA1W415JP5WEAJKRoberta Karchner0041337904000A regular in our homeOur dogs have been eating Beneful for several years now. When our older dog had issues with weight, we picked up the healthy weight variety, however as she gets older, we are more concerned about keeping her weight up than down.

Over the years we have tried numerous varieties, and this is the one that most satisfies our dogs and their needs. Because they are a "bit spoiled," we do supplement with small packages of moist food, but even without it, these make them happier than gourmet foods costing much more.

I was happy to see this in the larger size, but suggest that you try a smaller size if this is a first time for your dog.
240289240289B001VJ0B0IA3R9X003XW0LNRDeborah Verlen "Deborah"0031337904000Not as substantial as the better brandsI try to feed my wolfhound the more expensive foods which are higher in natural ingredients and generally feature healthier ingredients, but she tends to like the "cheap" stuff. Had been meaning to try Beneful for awhile as the picture on the package makes it look as though it is full of healthy ingredients!

Unfortunately the kibble is composed of the following ingredients--most prominent listed first:

Ground yellow corn, chicken-by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, beef tallow preserved with mixed-tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), rice flour, beef, soy flour etc. etc. In other words there are a lot of fillers. Very little true meat or even vegetables.

My dog does like this food. I tend to feed a combination of raw, healthy and less healthy. So basically she gets two cups of the "good" kibble (high in natural ingredients and meat content), one cup of the cheaper stuff to keep her interested in her meal and for the morning feed yogurt, cheese and green beans are added and for the evening meal she gets meat, rice and fresh veggies mixed with the kibble.

I would not feed Beneful "straight" to my dog, but mixing it pleases her taste buds and the healthier stuff pleases me knowing she is getting a mostly high quality meal.
240290240290B001VJ0B0IA1L7R2764ED46YG. Hembrough0041337817600Dog Eats It But Not Top QualityMy chihuahua is a very picky eater. She wasn't eating her current food, so I ordered this to try and mix with her food to get her to eat it. Well, she picks out the Beneful and eats it only. Therefore, I give it 4 stars because she is actually eating this food, but I would prefer for it to be made with more natural, real ingredients. I compare this food to Kibbles and Bits which is more like junk food for dogs. Soft, chewy, junk food. But my chihuahua is a junk food junky. She'd rather eat treats and junk food than her all natural real chicken food. What can you do? LOL.
240291240291B001VJ0B0IA1JMR1N9NBYJ1XMad Ethyl Flint0051337817600Three for Three!Fed this to my three babies (lab and lab mix). I wasn't sure since it wasn't as crunch as what they're used to, but the seemed to love it.
Apparently it smells good because they didn't stand there and smell it before digging in.

Smallish kibble, which is what my big dogs prefer.
Reasonably priced.

I will continue to purchase this dogfood.

Thank you!
240292240292B001VJ0B0IA34DQNMFKMAGJQChantay W. "BookLover4Life"0041337817600If Doggie Likes It, I Like it TooThis was our first time trying BENEFUL, original dog food. Had no clue how the dog would react to it. Usually, when the food choice is new he'll try it out. So, the real definitive test comes when the second day arrives. The second day and others have gone and passed and he has taken to Purina's Beneful nicely. Beneful, which I recommend, has fast become a favorite in my household!
240293240293B001VJ0B0IA1ALOTXWL76OY7Maria Waltner0021337817600Read the Ingredient ListMake sure you read the list of ingredients before you purchase this brand of dog food. With all the healthy looking vegetables on the bag you wouldn't get that cornmeal and chicken by-product were the first ingredients. However, my dog does like the taste of it (at least initially). She happily ate the first 1/4 of the bag and then I had to start mixing in another brand. I decided to switch to Purina One Beyond (yellow bag) because the main ingredient is either chicken or lamb.
240294240294B001VJ0B0IA2MUGFV2TDQ47KLynrie "Oh HELL no"0021337731200OK But Not Great for the Long HaulSelected Beneful Original as a change from the dog's old standby, Harmony Chicken and Rice, which he isn't eating as heartily as before. This dog food is reasonably priced BUT looking at the pictures on the label I expected to see assorted veggies higher on the ingredients list. Corn IS high on the ingredients list and TOO MUCH corn isn't agreeable with my dog's' tummy, and causes poop-issues and sensitivity/allergy.

I like that there are added vitamin supplements but can do without the added sugar. The assorted colors and shapes of the kibbles look cute and appealing to this human, not sure the colors make a difference to my pooch. He eats this food happily but it doesn't agree with his tummy which doesn't make me too happy. His abundant paw licking isn't because this dog food was paw-licking good, his food sensitivity/allergy has returned. The food allergy may also cause runny eyes and scratching due to the dry itchy skin and I have to give him Children's Benadryl and Fish Oil like the last Vet visit recommendation.

So I'll cook brown rice and mix that half rice/half Beneful and he can get by OK. I'll continue my search for a dog food that is BOTH heathful for the dog AND convenient for me. Cooking regularly for the dog isn't a life goal yet.
240295240295B001VJ0B0IAQH1SWR5HA413Donnie Darko "Donnie Darko"0051337731200Purina hits another home run with this dog food.We have used Purina Beneful products in the past and were always satisfied with their quality. This was the case with this Beneful Dog Food product as well. Both our dogs (a German Shepard and an English Setter) love it right out of the bag. They are very picky in what they eat. With some of the other dry dog foods we have to add something to entice them to eat. They enjoy every bite with no additives and are very satisfied. This dog food is a little more costly, but if you check the contents you will see what a healthy choice this is for your pet. We consider our pets to be a part of our family. As such we want them to be with us as long as possible. We find the Purina Beneful Original Dog Food to be both healthy and good tasting for our dogs. I recommend this product.
240296240296B001VJ0B0IABL3PCYAQ1Y4CC. Lindsey0051337731200Love the zipper top and easy openOh how I hate to buy dog food: Lugging it into my basket; into the car; out of the car. Hunt down the scissors or find a screw driver and rip that bad boy open where bugs will get in it or lift the whole heavy thing into a container. This great new bag has a zipper on top and when I saw that I was happy! Wow, I unzipped it and the bag unsealed and I didn't even need to pick the heavy ole thing to dump into the ice chest because I can get what I need and viola! Zipped that puppy right up. That alone is something to look for if you lost several pairs of scissors in the garage.

As to the food itself: I've always felt good about Beneful: It is colorful and smells good and my two rescued country dogs are not too picky. Spikes wolfs down anything you put in front of him and looks at Baxter's bowl with lust. Baxter is a slower eater and we usually have to watch him to make sure he eats it all or empty it back into the container. This time, Baxter ate it right up quickly and no extra to empty out.

The price may be a little higher than the grocery store, but I am a Prime member and having it delivered to my door is a huge plus!
240297240297B001VJ0B0IA215WH6RUDUCMPShilom0051337731200My Dachsund Loves This Dogfood!I always buy Purina, and decided to try this brand for Dobey since it was available in vine for us to review. He was pretty bored of his other food, the only dog I know to leave the bowl half full after feedings and walk away. But this stuff, he just gobbles it up! I know some of the other reviews bash it for not being all meat and a lot of corn meal products, but I don't have the budget to spend money on expensive dog food and buy him all meat or organic dog foods or feed him better than I eat myself. I also trust the Purina brand as through the years it has never been one of the dog foods to ever be recalled. I am not saying this because I got free dogfood to sample, Amazon sent this to me not Purina, but as a loyal Purina customer. When I had my siamese cat before my dog (who is now five), that's all I ever bought him was Purina, too. Anyways, my doxie loves this Beneful better than his old Purina mix so we will definitly be sticking to it for now! I also love the bag itself which is resealable. I personally have a tote that we store our food in since they didn't used to have sealable bags, so we just dumped it in there and mixed his old food in there so his tummy could adjust anyways, but I thought it was worth mentioning as I thought that was a cool plus! Highly recommended. Sure, there is better food out there, healthier, meatier, more organic. And sure, your dog deserves better if you can afford it. I can't. I give my dog my steak scraps sometimes and he's not complaining, he's happy with this mix and chasing squirrels and rabbits, and my wallet will be happy too. :)
240298240298B001VJ0B0IA37071Q86HR6FUAlan Hawkins0041337731200yum yumI have a picky 15 pound dog and he loves this stuff. Like a child he spits out the peas. I know it is lacking in ingredients bur he will readily eat this food.
240299240299B001VJ0B0IA19XE6G6NDZFPSJoanna Mechlinski0031337731200Not the healthiest, but my dogs love it...Contrary to what the bag photos of veggies would have you believe, this isn't exactly the healthiest food you could possibly give your dog. That said, it's not the worst, either -- and since my two (a bichon and a poodle mix) really enjoy it, I alternate now and again between their regular "healthy kibble."
240300240300B001VJ0B0IA2X396SN5F0H0SA Central Illinoisian in Chicago0041337731200Beneful is like the "Wendy's Hamburgers" of Dog FoodDog Food is one of those things that's difficult for a human to properly review. After all, we're not going to eat it (let's hope), and some dogs, mine included, tend to scarf down the stuff that's least healthy for them in the long run. Put down a bowl of "Kibbles and Bits" next to "Science Diet" and my dog will go for the Kibbles and Bits, and yet we know that Science Diet is better for him. And yet, we want him to enjoy his food... What to do, what to do?

Well, we give him Beneful. Yes, it's not the "best" dog food out there if you're going from a pure nutrition standpoint. Our local organic food stores and even a new organic pet food store (!) have things that are far superior, but let's face it, you're going to pay a LOT more for that than for Beneful. Further, I know from experience that the human food there lacks in flavor and texture compared to "mass market" foods, and yes, while that's a trade off some are willing to make, my tolerance for it only goes so far, and I'm not going to give my dog food that may be good for it that it eats only as a last resort.

So Beneful is for us that reasonable compromise between "good for the dog", "enjoyable for the dog", and "consistently affordable". In that way, it's like Wendys. A Wendy's meal isn't a masterpiece of cooking, but it's better than most fast food, and reasonably priced. If I had to eat Fast Food every day, I'd pick Wendys. And if I have to give my dog the same thing every day, I have picked, and will continue to pick, Beneful.
240271240271B001VJ0B0IAX329NHW6B7BAJudy Smith "judylynnsbooks"0051338336000It's a winner! My girls are very picky eaters so I figured this would be another bag we would be giving away. We have them on science diet at the moment (naturally the little devils would pick the most expensive kind to not snub). I'm relieved they like this since I feel like they need a little variety in their diet. This stuff sure looks more appetizing then most of the dog foods and my 4 girls all seem to enjoy it tremendously.
240272240272B001VJ0B0IA1ZGHA3IJV01BKK-cee Kit "CAH-M"0041338336000An old favorite...My lab has been eating this for several years now and she likes it allot, we sometimes switch things up and use other brands but always come back to this. It is not your pricey 100% natual type but she has always been healthy and strong with an amazing coat. No complaints here give it a try.
240273240273B001VJ0B0IA2YB7DLC3FOR7WPamela V ""MS V""0051338336000The Only Dog food My Shepherd Mix Will Eat!We adopted a German Shepherd mix puppy from the Humane Society last summer, and started him on Blue Buffalo dog food because he was immediately in poor health and ran up hundreds of dollars in vet bills due to parasites and dehydration. We thought he would love that dog food, but he didn't. He begrudgingly ate that brand of food for the first 6 months of his life with us.

But one Sunday we realized we were low on dog food and since we live in the country, only the big box store was within a few miles drive from us, and we had few choices of dog food to choose from. Nothing was "high-end." We bought the best we could find - which was Purina Beneful dog food. Our dog actually ate it! And he has been eating Purina Beneful ever since last fall. Sure, he would rather have table scraps or cat food, but he will eat this dog food when his other favorites aren't available.

As far as nutrition goes, most dog foods are pretty much the same. Compare the most expensive brands ingredients, and just like Beneful from Purina, the first ingredient is corn. Dogs are carnivores with omnivore tendencies, meaning they will eat a varied diet. They need a well-balanced diet that includes proteins, whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

I highly recommend this dog food, and can honestly say it's the only kind of dog food our dog will eat when it's in his bowl.

Thomas "Tom"0051338336000Great for picky eatersMy dogs are picky....what most dogs will gobble up..they'll sniff and will walk fault I guess since they love chicken..however, when there is no chicken to eat..they seem to like this dog food....I mean they are so picky they won't eat anything with some of those frozen hamburgers..but they will eat beneful...
240275240275B001VJ0B0IA2TSTJP0B3A3H5J. Prather0051338336000Gone in a flashMax is a 24lb Corgi/Terrier mix who gives Beneful an enthusiastic recommendation. He's a picky eater who prefers people food to regular dog food any day of the week, so I didn't hold out much hope when I poured the recommended amount into his bowl. Much to my surprise, it was gone in a flash! He acted like this was the best thing he'd seen in his bowl in a long time. We'll continue to supplement Max's diet with a bit of canned food, but as long as he's so excited about Beneful, we'll keep giving it to him. He did not experience any gastric problems with the change in food, and despite others concerns about the high vegetable content (junk food?), I feel that this is a nice, healthier change for Max. The size and ratio of crunchy to soft pieces was very appealing to him, as he has resisted crunchy food in the past. The packaging is great, with a zip top closure that will keep this large bag of Beneful fresh for quite a while. A solid recommend from Max.
240276240276B001VJ0B0IA1QVQ7UJY4VASGM. Ellis "magnoliamansions"0051338249600Pretty dog gone goodI had been feeding my rescued greyhound a quality dog food which was top grade and expensive. However, the dog picked at her food and didn't eat much. I decided to try Beneful and what a difference it has made. The dog eagerly eats every single piece and stands waiting for more if I will give it. She has gained a few pounds, has a healthy coat and abundant energy for running around our large fenced yard no doubt remembering her days at the track. The label says it is filled with healthy ingredients and beneficial additives. Whatever that contributes I cannot vouch, but i can say the dog really likes this product and eats heartily. I can certainly recommend Beneful.
