Nestlé breaks world record for largest greeting card to mark Mother’s DayThere was a lot of love shown for mums in Dubai this week, when a new world record was set for the largest greeting card. Looking to mark Mothers Day in record-breaking style, Nestlé NIDO unveiled a card at the Dubai Mall Ice Rink last weekend, measuring a massive 10 metres by 7 metres when closed, and 10 meters by 14 meters when open. Nestle’s record was helped in no small part from children across the Middle East, who had been encouraged to contribute to the card as part of Nestlé NIDO’s ‘I Love Mama’ painting competition. The campaign saw over 40,800 children from 68 schools across the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Jordan submitting drawings expressing their love for their mother. One student from every school was also awarded a golden heart pendant as a gift to their mother.Speaking following the unveiling of the special card, Yves Manghardt, Chairman and CEO at Nestlé Middle East said: “Today’s new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title achievement is a unique way of recording all of the love expressions of the children who participated in our ‘I Love Mama’ campaign and celebrating every mother’s passion and dedication this Mother’s Day”. The attempt beat the previous record set by the University College, Dublin, Republic of Ireland, who created a free-standing Christmas card measuring 9 metres x 6 metres (29.5 ft x 19.7 ft) when closed and 9 metres x 12 metres (29.52 ft x 39.37 ft) when opened.
X Games 2012 preview: World Records set to fall in Los AngelesHave you ever seen a 12 year old boy soar 70 feet through the air on a skateboard? A man perform a double backflip on a motocross bike? Or two cars successfully navigate a vertical loop the height of a five-storey building? If not, then you'll see all these spectacles and many more at the X Games in Los Angeles over the next four days. Returning for its 18th Summer competition, the X Games is a celebration of "extreme" sports - ranging from street-style skateboarding to BMX bikes and boards alike tackling giant half pipes, park courses and the colossal mega ramp - a steep roll-in to a 70 foot gap jump, followed by a quarter pipe measuring 27 feet high that can propel riders to a height of 40 feet or more!Freestyle motocross (FMX) and rally cross driving are also part of the competition schedule. Over four days, the world's top athletes from these disciplines will compete for X Games gold and glory, and may just set some new world records in the process. The action kicks off on Thursday, with practice sessions on the street and park courses, along with the big air mega ramp, with an elimination round in the evening. Among those competing here will be two-time Guinness World Records title-holder Tom Schaar. The 12-year-old holds records for both being the first person to land a 1080, (three full aerial spins on a skateboard), and for being the youngest ever X Games gold medalist. You can watch an exclusive interview with Tom here. Tom won't be the youngest competitor present, though, as 11 year old Jagger Eaton will also be there, along with Trey Wood, also 11. Eaton's appearance will see him break the record for youngest X Games competitor by some four months, currently held by defending skateboard street gold medallist Nyjah Huston. A win for Eaton in the skateboard big air would thus break Tom Schaar's youngest gold medallist record, so Schaar will certainly be looking to best him in Saturday's final, perhaps even with his signature 1080. We could also witness some world-first stunts in the Moto X best trick event on Friday, which sees eight competitors given two chances each to show the world the most challenging move they can perform on a motocross bike. One of those hoping to make history with a new trick is Kyle Loza, who'll be attempting his "bike flip" - a move which would see the bike perform a complete vertical rotation while Kyle hangs on to the handlebars at one side. Clinton Moore, meanwhile, is hoping to land the first ever 720 - two horizontal rotations of both bike and rider. It's a trick that has thus far eluded the best the sport has to offer FMX legend Travis Pastrana crashed out the last two years attempting it, shattering his leg doing so in the 2011 event. Pastrana is not returning to the event this year though, so it's all down to Moore to make the 720 happen. Saturday begins with a historic world record attempt from Hot Wheels, who are bringing their popular "Double Loop Dare" toy to life with a giant orange loop the loop (pictured above). Two daring drivers will attempt the stunt simultaneously, which if successful, would break the world record for largest loop the loop by a car, most recently broken on our the Chinese Guinness World Records TV show. The stunt will be broadcast live on both ABC and ESPN, so if you live in the USA, you've no excuse not to see history being made in real-time. For those of you living outside of the US, stay tuned to, where we'll be posting a video of the attempt. If you're lucky enough to be in the area, why not come and witness it yourself? It's free to attend, and will be taking place at the Gilbert Lindsay Plaza from 11am. Several event finals take place later on Saturday, including BMX vert on the half pipe. Jamie Bestwick of the UK has won this event an astonishing five times in a row, between 2007 and 2011. A sixth straight win here would see him tie the record for most consecutive X Games gold medals, currently held by the skateboard vert doubles team of Tony Hawk and Andy Macdonald, between 1997 and 2002. The competition is then drawn to a close on Sunday, with finals of skateboard street, rallycross, and BMX big air - another event which could just maybe be home to a world-first trick. Throughout the four days of competition, the Guinness World Records team will be on-site at the X-Games, with plenty of exciting opportunities to offer those of you attending in person. All day, every day you can come to see or take your picture with the world's largest skateboard, created by California Skateparks, who have also constructed all the ramps that will be used in this year's X Games competitions. Plus, if you take one of the wackiest photos each day and upload it to our Facebook page, you could be walking away with a goody bag full of Guinness World Records swag! (See postcards at the largest skateboard display for competition details). We're also giving you the opportunity to attempt to set a skateboarding world record of your own at the X-Fest skatepark, with daily opportunities to ollie, shove-it, or kickflip your way into the record books. As an added bonus, there may even be a guest appearance or two from some of our skateboarding world record holders there as well... Whether you're watching from home or live here at the X Games with us, we hope you'll enjoy the excitement the next four days of extreme sports competition has to offer - and you can be sure that as and when these daring athletes set any new world records, you'll be able to hear about it right here on guinnessworldrecords.comTo get you in the mood, here below is a montage of highlights from past X
Garnier Canada grasps longest handshake chain world recordGarnier Canada have made a friendly entry into the history books after staff from the cosmetics firm set a new world record for the longest handshake chain. The attempt took place last month in Cancun, Mexico at the company's national sales meeting, the theme for which had been 'History Will Be Made'.Garnier decided to attempt a world record in order to excite and inspire its sales team for the new year ahead, and with any bid for the longest handshake chain record relying entirely on teamwork, it seemed the perfect record for its staff to try and set.The minimum number of participants needed in order to set the record was 150 people, with each participant required to cross their arms in front of them and shake hands with both the person on their left and the person on their right for a full minute. Had one person broken the chain, the attempt would have been disqualified. One aspect of the event that made the record attempt unique was that the record was a surprise - none of the participants knew they would be setting a record until the attempt was announced. While the Garnier reps sat unsuspectingly watching a presentation, Guinness World Records Adjudicator Amanda Mochan counted the total number of seats that were filled, before an announcement was made informing staff members know that were about to help Garnier make history. As the countdown began, independent witnesses took positions along the perimeter of the room to ensure that no one broke the chain. For an entire minute, everyone joined together and shook. Once the sixty seconds were up, 188 participants had set a new Guinness World Records achievement.

Four more players have since matched it.Angus T Jones, star of US sitcom Two and a Half Men , has described the show as "filth", while urging viewers not to watch it.In a video posted online by a Christian group, Jones said he no longer wanted to take part in the show. The 19-year-old, who plays Jake Harper (aka the "half"), explained that the CBS show's raunchy humour conflicted with his recent bible studies.Jones currently holds the Guinness World Records title for the highest paid child actor on TV by episode, with a reported fee of $250,000 (£156,620) per show.

Australia sets record for largest bikini paradeEvery so often in the world of record attempts all of the elements - including weather, surroundings, organisation and result - come together to create a truly spectacular experience. Hundreds of sun worshippers and their many admiring onlookers discovered this reality on the stunning sands of Australia's Gold Coast yesterday. In an event organised by The Gold Coast Bulletin newspaper, which also raised money for the Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club, several hundred women came together to strip down to their bikinis and parade along a one-mile stretch of beach. The aim was to knock off the record for Largest Bikini Parade, which had last been broken in the Cayman Islands and stood at 331 women.Weather the evening before was ominous, with strong winds and scattered showers threatening to literally rain on the parade. But come the morning of the attempt the skies were a perfect Queensland blue, the ocean was smooth and inviting and the temperature balmy. Participants began registering two hours before the event and by the time the long walk began, 361 women had registered for the atempt. Two counters on the mile-long course ensured all women took part, and a final count was conducted by Guinness World Records official Chris Sheedy as the ladies crossed the finish line onto the main stage ("It took a lot of concentration to do that count," he assured us). While Chris was forced to disqualify four participants, (one for wearing a one-piece and three others for wearing shorts over their bikini bottoms), the final result was a positive one as The Gold Coast Bulletin team broke the old target with 357 bikini-clad record breakers. The Gold Coast beach lovers claimed a record that they truly believe should always be theirs. Considering the surroundings, we can understand why.

Longest Body Percussion Chain record set in Las VegasHow do you top off a long week of meetings in Las Vegas? Trying to set a new Guinness World Records achievement is one way!For Sanofi Renal's annual sales meeting, the theme of "All In" set the tone for the week: teamwork, energy, and giving it everything you've got to win and come out on top. Knowing they needed a killer conclusion to their conference, the management team at Sanofi decided to surprise their staff with a record-breaking challenge.Walking into what they thought was going to be a normal sales meeting, the sales team at Sanofi Renal were stunned when they learned that instead of a presentation, they were going to attempt to set the record for "Longest Body Percussion Chain." Each participant would quickly learn a series of different rhythms, and then in one long, continuous chain, would play these rhythms on the body of the person in front of them. Excitement mounted as the group quickly learned and practiced the routine. The nervous tension grew as no one wanted to be the one person to slip up and ruin the record-breaking opportunity. For the next 60 seconds, everyone in the ballroom became fixated on one goal: success.
