8163Sears and 'Man of Steel' Soar to Superman RecordMaybe Superman should revise his business card: he now fights for truth, justice, and the record-breaking way.In anticipation of the upcoming Warner Bros. movie release, "Man of Steel," Sears invited hundreds of employees to gather at its corporate headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, USA, to try and break the record for largest gathering of people dressed as Superman on June 5.And as easy as leaping tall buildings in a single bound, they did it, surpassing the previous mark of 437 with a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS number of 566 people dressed as America's most iconic superhero. Here's the entire group, caught all in one shot without even needing X-ray vision. The record was attempted to celebrate the tie-in between Sears and "Man of Steel," starring Henry Cavill as the latest Clark Kent. In the film, Clark's father Jonathan works at a Sears.A neat twist to this attempt over the five previous record-holders is that this group wore exclusively the new, never-before-released "Man of Steel" outfit to be worn in the new release."This is really the joining of two great American brands, Sears and Superman," said Ron Boire, Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising Officer and President, Sears and Kmart Formats.Official adjudicator Philip Robertson was on sight to count the qualifying participants and presented Boire with an official certificate for this record-breaking achievement."Man of Steel" opens nationwide in the U.S. on June 14.
8164Andy Murray wins Wimbledon, Zara Tindall pregnant, and a George Clooney split - News in World RecordsThe last time a British player won the gentlemen's singles title at Wimbledon, no sporting event had ever been televised live yet.Andy Murray changed that under slightly different conditions over the weekend, becoming the first Brit to conquer the fortnight since Fred Perry in 1936. Murray thwarted world No. 1 Novak Djokovic while 17.29 million watched on live TV in the UK alone. And in addition to having his face deservedly plastered on nearly every British newspaper imaginable (image courtesy @DarrenRovell), Murray and ladies' winner Marion Bartoli also enjoyed the highest Wimbledon prize money ever at £1.6 million ($2.4 million).Elsewhere in Britain, Buckingham Palace announced that Zara Tindall - granddaughter to Queen Elizabeth II - is pregnant with her first child. Tindall's cousin Prince William is of course expecting, along with wife Catherine, his first child this month, which may overshadow Tindall's announcement. Not that she isn't used to it: while her July 2011 wedding was a small, private affair, "Will and Kate" saw their marriage garner the most live streams of an online event with 72 million live views on their official channel in April of the same year. From royalty to celebrity, Hollywood power couple George Clooney and Stacy Keibler have reportedly split after two years. Because we are Guinness World Records and not TMZ, we can proudly say this was not a topic of conversation when Keibler helped Colgate recently break the record for most people using mouthwash simultaneously. That number hit 1,142 in New York's Times Square on June 25, adjudicated by our own Sara Wilcox. Thus, surely, the break-up couldn't have been for lack of fresh breath.
